[Oslo] Tire change + seasonal tire storage: who is fast, careful with rims, and not overpriced?

Oslo, Norway (city-specific questions). Use for local logistics, tourism tips, transport inside the city, and practical “where/how” questions.

Peak season can be chaotic, so I’d like one thread where people share where tire changes and tire hotels actually work smoothly. Please add real details:
  • How early you booked and how long you waited on-site
  • Whether they handled rims carefully (no scratches) and balanced properly
  • Storage pricing and conditions (cleaning, labeling, insurance, access rules)
  • Any “hidden” fees (valves, disposal, TPMS, extra balancing)
Who gave you the smoothest tire season experience—and what tip helps avoid the spring/autumn rush?

I’ve done tire change and seasonal storage in Oslo a few times now, and my bold claim is that the cheapest option is almost never the calmest one during peak season. Booking early mattered way more than I expected; when I booked two weeks ahead, I was in and out in under 30 minutes, but last-minute bookings felt like a test of patience. Most places handled rims fine from what I’ve seen, but I always ask upfront about balancing and TPMS fees because that’s where “small extras” quietly appear. Storage pricing varies a lot, and it feels like the better places are transparent about cleaning, labeling, and insurance instead of surprising you later. but there’s a nuance… if you’re flexible on timing and avoid the first warm weekend, even mid-range shops can be smooth and stress-free. For transportation tips, I’d say pick a place that’s easy to reach by public transport so you’re not stuck waiting around with no escape plan. Has anyone found a tire hotel that’s both careful with rims and genuinely efficient during peak season? And do you book months ahead, or just gamble and hope for the best?

I’ve had the same experience in Oslo: planning beats price every time. The smoothest tire changes I’ve had were always booked at least a couple of weeks ahead, ideally mid-week, and those visits were honestly painless. The better tire hotels walked me through storage conditions, included cleaning and balancing in the quote, and didn’t spring TPMS or valve fees at checkout. I also started snapping quick photos of my rims beforehand, not because I expect damage, but it keeps everyone careful and transparent. That said, smaller shops outside the center can be surprisingly good if you’re flexible on timing and don’t insist on peak weekends. I usually choose places near a T-bane stop so I can disappear if there’s a delay. Are you doing the tire swap right before a longer road trip, or is this just routine city driving prep for the season?
