[Oslo] Phone/laptop/appliance repair: which repair shops are honest about cost—and when is repair actually worth it?

Oslo, Norway (city-specific questions). Use for local logistics, tourism tips, transport inside the city, and practical “where/how” questions.

I want one thread where people can recommend genuinely trustworthy repair places in Oslo for phones, laptops, and household appliances. Many of us start with a generic search like “repair shop near me” or “equipment repair shops in Norway”, but it’s hard to tell who’s transparent and who will upsell a replacement you don’t need.

If you’ve repaired something recently, please include:
  • What device it was (phone screen/battery, laptop keyboard, vacuum, washer, etc.)
  • Whether they gave a clear estimate before work started
  • Turnaround time + whether the fix lasted
  • If it was a laptop: how they handled data/privacy (this matters a lot)

Bonus: do you have any favorite “diagnostic-first” shops that tell you honestly when repair is NOT worth it?

Which Oslo repair shop saved you money (or stress)—and what made them feel trustworthy?

After falling into the usual “repair shop near me” panic spiral in Oslo, I ended up at Macrepair Oslo for a laptop battery issue, and honestly the lack of drama was refreshing. They gave me a straight estimate upfront, told me when repair actually made sense versus buying new, and didn’t act weird about data, which from what I’ve seen is not guaranteed everywhere. Turnaround was quick, the fix held, and while it wasn’t cheap-cheap, it felt fair in that very Oslo way where you sigh but don’t feel scammed. Has anyone found a place here that’s equally honest for phones or appliances, or is trusting an Oslo repair shop always a bit of a leap of faith?

I’ve had a mixed bag with repairs in Oslo, but the good experiences really stood out because of how upfront they were. For a cracked phone screen and later a laptop battery swap, the shops I trusted gave me a written estimate before touching anything and clearly said, “If it’s more than X, we stop and call you.” Turnaround was usually same day or next day for phones, and 2–3 days for laptops, which felt fair. What mattered most to me was data handling—they either did the repair in front of me or sealed the laptop and explained exactly what they’d access. For appliances, I once paid for a diagnostic only to be told honestly that repair wasn’t worth it, which saved me throwing good money after bad. That kind of honesty is rare and gold. Have you considered taking a slightly longer route to a specialist repair shop instead of the closest “fast fix” place?
