For bridges as destinations, the Storseisundet Bridge on the Atlantic Ocean Road is still the one that makes people stop mid-sentence, mostly because it looks like a glitch in reality from the right angle. There are proper lay-bys on both sides so you can actually see the curve without playing Frogger with traffic, and walking it is fine unless the wind decides to remind you who’s boss. From what I’ve seen, overcast or stormy weather weirdly makes it better, while blue-sky days can feel a bit flat compared to the drama you expect. Are there any other Norwegian bridges that hit this hard visually, or did this one quietly win the category already?

One bridge that really feels like a destination is the Atlantic Road, especially the Storseisundet Bridge section. What makes it work is the setting — open ocean, low islands, and weather that changes the whole mood minute by minute. Driving it is easy, but stopping is key. There are proper lay-bys and short paths where you can safely get out and actually see the curves and scale instead of just rolling over it. Walking parts of it is fine, but wind can be brutal, so pick your moment. What surprised me was how busy it gets midday in summer. Early morning or late evening is calmer. Are you planning to hit this as part of a coastal loop, or just detouring in and out?
