Deleting and closing are two different things, and people usually want the second one.
If the business is gone, mark it closed. The entry stays, the history stays, and anyone who searches sees that it ended rather than a blank. If you delete your access instead, the entry usually stays anyway and you simply stop controlling what it says.
If the business moved, do not delete anything. Change the address. A deleted entry throws away every review it carried, and reviews do not come back.
If there are two entries for the same place, that is a merge, not a deletion. Deleting the wrong one is the common way to lose ten years of reviews.
How to check it yourself:
1. Search your business name and the town, and count how many entries appear.
2. Open each one and check the address and the phone number.
3. Decide for each: keep, close, or merge. Write it down before you touch anything.
4. Note how many reviews sit on each entry. That is what you stand to lose.
